Certification framework Overview
The DICASA certification framework was launched in November 2010 and to mid 2015, 452 assessments of Drillers and Drill Rig Assistants have been completed.
The 2008 Amendment to the Skills Development Act gave birth to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). The QCTO's role is to ''oversee the design, implementation, assessment and certification of occupational qualifications on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF)". In 2014 the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) began a series of workshops to develop a series of Drilling qualifications:
- Rock drill operator
- Exploration driller
- Directional driller
The QCTO curriculum structure is made up of three components, knowledge, skills and experience and a qualification is issued only once the candidate has been assessed and found competent in all three components.
For more information about the QCTO please visit their website.
At present, the Exploration Driller qualification is in the process of being approved and ratified and we expect that this process will be complete in 2016.
In view of the pending QCTO Exploration Driller qualification, the DICASA assessment guidelines have been re-structured to align with the QCTO curriculum and assessment guidelines.
